Penelope Design Studio was founded by Sarah Kay Yawney in 2017 with the dream to make jewelry that is handmade, one of a kind, and obtainable to all. After the sudden passing of her rescue dog, Penelope (pictured above to the right) , Sarah decided that it was the perfect time to start pursuing her passion to not only own her own small business but also to let her always “making” soul come to the forefront of her life. 

After working for Anthropologie for almost 10 years as a Display Artist, Sarah decided in April 2021 that it was time to take a chance on herself and pursue this dream full time. While watching this fun side business flourish for almost three years, she is now excited to be able to devote the time she always wanted to expand the brand and carry on Penelopes memory.

Sarah is originally from Hickory, North Carolina and now lives in Charleston, South Carolina with her husband, Devon, their son, Collins, and their four, dogs, Pickles, Clementine, Waffles, and Beans (pictured above). 

Each piece of jewelry is handmade in Sarah’s James Island studio from only two materials- 100% copper and 100% leather/suede. She has found that using only these two materials creates an exciting collaboration that has endless possibilities that stretches her creative soul.
